Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (1888–1964) was a Dutch architect and furniture designer whose work became closely associated with the De Stijl movement. Trained as a cabinetmaker, he developed an influential approach built around clarity of construction, spatial openness and accessible modern design. His best-known works include the Red and Blue Chair, the Zig Zag Chair and the 1934 Crate furniture series, relaunched by Rietveld Originals in collaboration with HAY.
