The opening in Layout’s backrest gives the shell a light, distinctive profile. An armless chair keeps the sides open; the armchair curves around you.

Start with that shape. Then choose the base and how much of the shell you want to see: coloured plastic, a timber seat, seat upholstery or upholstery all around.

How Layout comes together.

Two shapes, six bases and four seat constructions. Keep the complete model code with you: it identifies a different combination, rather than simply a colour.

Explore the covers

Chair or armchair.

The 100 codes identify the armless chair. The 200 codes identify the armchair. Compare the sides of the shell and the space beneath your table or desk.

Six ways to sit.

Choose tube legs, solid wood legs, four-star swivel, five-star swivel with gas lift and wheels, an arc swivel base, or an arc swivel base with wheels. Wheels do not always mean height adjustment.

Think about everyday use.

Check the exact model’s footprint and seat height. For armchairs, allow room beneath the table; for desk use, compare swivel, wheels and height adjustment on the particular base.

03 / The surface and the feel

The seat changes the character.

The last digit makes the construction easier to read: 1 has a plastic seat; 2 a veneer seat; 3 an upholstered seat with the coloured shell visible; 4 full upholstery.

Models ending 1, 2 or 3

A shell you can see.

Keep the coloured backrest in view. Choose a matching plastic seat, a veneer seat that brings in timber, or upholstery at the seat while the back remains exposed.

Models ending 4

Upholstery all around.

Full upholstery changes both the seat and backrest. The precise fabric, colour and base finish belong to the complete model specification; replacement covers are listed separately below.
