The HAY About a Chair - AAC 221 Soft sets Hee Welling’s lower-arm shell on a four-star aluminium swivel base. Full upholstery with a quilted front adds foam and wadding, giving the curved seat and back a softer, more textured expression. A swivel seat provides movement at a table or desk, while lower armrests reduce the height of the shell at the sides.

Designer: Hee Welling

Hee Welling is a Danish furniture designer who founded his own studio in Copenhagen in 2003. The son of a cabinetmaker, Welling’s fascination with production techniques, materials, and machinery was fired as a child. He went on to study at The University of Art and Design in Helsinki, and received his master’s degree in furniture design from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Centred around the idea of creating technically accomplished products that can reach a wide audience, his designs are characterised by a great sense of proportion and quietly elegant aesthetics.
