The HAY About a Chair - AAC 226 Front Upholstered sets Hee Welling’s gently curved lower-arm shell on four tubular steel legs. Front upholstery cushions the seat and inner back while leaving the coloured polypropylene shell visible from behind. Lower armrests allow this chair to fit beneath a table or desk, while the fixed steel base keeps the four-legged form straightforward.

Designer: Hee Welling

Hee Welling is a Danish furniture designer who founded his own studio in Copenhagen in 2003. The son of a cabinetmaker, Welling’s fascination with production techniques, materials, and machinery was fired as a child. He went on to study at The University of Art and Design in Helsinki, and received his master’s degree in furniture design from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Centred around the idea of creating technically accomplished products that can reach a wide audience, his designs are characterised by a great sense of proportion and quietly elegant aesthetics.
